Hospital Radio has over 160 hours of recorder programme's in MP3 format on our computer system as a backup .For small non commercial stations the availability of recorded programming is a very welcome development. I envisage our station using more and more recorded output as you can get quality programming from quality presenters without the need to physically get them into the studio which in today's busy society is a hugh bonus.
Computer technology is such that Richard Smith's A to Z of Pop programme for instance, is recorded in the UK and made available to all UK and Irish Hospital Stations for broadcast. This could all happen on the one day if necessary. That would have been very expensive and so would not have been a viable prospect for us a few short years ago.
Matthew Wade in the UK is currently working on a very interesting pod cast project for hospital stations. I have made contact with Matthew and he has indicated that he will make these available for Irish stations as well. That will open a new source of available quality material for broadcast. If you want to read more of Matthews project there is a link to his web site on our link page.
