Mick O Brien

Hi Im Mick O'Brien I have been involved with St Ita's hospital radio since 1994. I've wanted to be a radio presenter since my mid teens ..but it took me 15 years before i took the plunge and contacted Tom Noctor and asked him to consider me for a slot on hospital Radio  ..Tom was most welcoming and most helpful to me and gave me every assistance possible. I've loved being involved with the station.

When I started there  it was a very very  different world ..we were still using Tapes and Records on air back then and  despite the fact that CDs were widely in use hospital radio had very few because of finances ...but i have watched Tom and Ken our engineer build the station from nothing to being one of the most modern stations in the country in the 1990s ..We were using MP3s before FM104 back then .. and what a difference it made .

St Itas has continued to be at the forefront of new technology in my time so much so that now with Covid we can all work from home
and it never ceases to amaze me how Tom Ken and now Phil Fagan have introduced every member of volunteers to the new technology every step of the way . The work that goes on behind the scenes is amazing.

We have always had a small but a wonderful team of presenters and backround staff almost everyone in a voluntary capacity and I am proud to be involved with such a wonderful crew for the past 27 years ...
(here's to the next 27 :)
